Hello to you, and welcome!
My name is Margo - I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Specialist.
I believe that therapy can be about coming back to what's natural. I don’t operate from a stance of you being broken, wrong for where you are, or needing to be talked out of your pain. Often, we just haven't had the space to hear ourselves in the right way. That’s what my work is about: helping you to be with what’s alive so that what’s stuck can be released, and what's lost can be found.
I’m passionate about Somatic Experiencing because I truly feel that it can make a substantial difference in your life. It’s not a quick fix, and I don’t even think of it as a technique - it's best described as allowing your body to do what it was designed to do in the first place. Through this lens, the real “problem” is anything that has disconnected you from yourself.
Because my work is so experiential and rooted in recovering yourself from the bottom-up, I’m often thought of as a go-to for when traditional talk therapy doesn’t work - but I use that, too! For some, it's the most important part of work together. Either way, my philosophy is the same: only You have the answers you're looking for, and my job is to help you recover them.
But wait - what is Somatic Experiencing?
In short, Somatic Experiencing involves feeling the sensations in your body and discharging stuck survival energies. It's a treatment for unresolved trauma and a doorway into balanced, embodied
Aliveness.
Somatic Experiencing a great modality for anyone that feels numb and disconnected, or experiences too much energy (in the way of anxiety disorders or uncontrolled anger, for example).
In Simple Terms

The Animal Inside of Us
Our nervous system is exactly the same as any other mammal's: in response to threat, our bodies prepare to fight, flight, fawn or freeze.
Our Beautiful Brains
What differentiates us from animals is, of course, our greater ability to think. We don't (thankfully, hopefully) punch our boss in the face or literally run out of a stressful business meeting. Usually, we strategize our way out of problems instead.
The Problem
When something that is "too much" happens "too fast," our bodies ready for survival and don't utilize all of the energy that arises. In a sense, it's as if we haven't fully registered that the threat has passed - and those survival energies of fight, flight, fawn or freeze stay stuck.
When Survival Responses Stay Stuck...
we remain vigilant, angry, anxious or so overwhelmed that our nervous systems collapse into a "freeze" state to conserve energy. When stuck in "freeze," hopelessness, numbness, or lethargy is experienced instead. It might also be the case that you experience a combination of those states at varying times, or maybe even all at once.
What Somatic Experiencing Looks Like
It depends on what's stuck! I'll be slowing you down to listen to your body piece by piece, sometimes inviting you to feel what's there, and sometimes inviting you to move in the way you might not have realized that you want to move.
Post Traumatic Growth
You. Really. Can. Heal.
Not only that - you can live a life that's even more vibrant, meaningful and empowered than before. It's not only possible, but perhaps far more accessible than you think.
